A Millennial’s Guide to Winter 2024 Fashion Trends: How to Look Stylish While Looking Your Age

January 3, 2024

The hardest part of getting older is starting to feel like you have aged out of fashion trends, but you can’t step a foot in the mall or shop at your favorite online store without feel like they are your only option to add to your wardrobe. To help make your winter shopping a easier, I am breaking down the top Winter 2024 style trends and telling you everything you need to know to make them millennial approved.

Let’s just get this one out of the way– low rise jeans.

While I think they may honestly be a better fit on my short torso than high-waisted jeans, for me personally, I think they are a skip. I personally carry my extra weight around my lower abdomen and as I have gotten older the thought of wearing a jean that provides little to no tummy control is just not something that I feel comfortable with.

Instead, I am sticking with a classic straight-leg pair of jeans that will never go out of style and can easily be dressed up or down. I also have been enjoying a bootcut/flare-leg jean to allow a tighter fit-up top, while still partaking in a very trendy style of denim.

I would also opt for a medium to darker wash or black denim for these upcoming winter months.

Here are some of my favorites: Abercrombie Curve Love 90s Straight (pictured), American Eagle Mom Jeans, and Levi’s Wedgie Straight.

An off the shoulder moment!

Yes, off the shoulder shirts, mainly sweaters, are here. These are such an easy way to elevate any outfit and they look so flattering on so many body types. I am so excited for this one and will definitely be on the hunt for one to add to my wardrobe this winter.

Here’s one that I have been eyeing. The color and details are so beautiful.

LAYERING!!!

Good news for anyone who is perpetually cold during the winter months. Layering shirts under cardigans, crewnecks, t-shirts, and anything else you can think is back! No longer do you have to step outside only to freeze your chest off or shiver in a sweater with too big of hole details. Simply layer your favorite light-weight long sleeve under your favorite sweater and you a ready to hit Target all winter long!

This is also great if you work in a cold office! Here I styled a sweater with a silk top underneath to be warm and stylish!

Next, let’s talk footwear.

For my casual girlies, good news. We are seeing neutral sneakers and UGG boots everywhere. It is even trendy to show off your cute socks again!

For my business girlies, booties, mules, and low profile loafers are slowly being replace with ballet flats and platform style shoes. I personally have the flattest feet in the world so ballet flats are not alway practical for a full day on my feet, so I would opt for these faux flats that actually have a small heel to them.

Tucking trends (yes, this is a thing)

For the past few years we have been front tucking or cropping everything. This winter you are going to see a shift in just letting shirts be untucked. My working theory is this is largely being driven by low rise jeans making a comeback, but I’ll take any excuse to hide my bloated stomach, so I think this is a huge win for millennials!

Let’s talk colors!

Thanks to our girl, Taylor, and the Barbie movie, we are seeing a lot more pink and red hitting the Winter streets. This is a welcomed change after years of having a very dark winter color palette to work with. If a lot of color is not for you, don’t you worry. I see a lot of us rocking an all black ensemble with a pop of color in a vest or a hair bow, so no need to dive all in on this one.

I am also seeing a lot of women diving into a lot of monochromatic white looks this season, which I think looks so classy during these cold months!

Want to stay warm, (faux) fur and suede jacets are BACK!

Break out those fleece-lined jean jackets and fur coats that we have been holding onto since the 90s because they are finally ready for the streets (again). I love any excuse to wear denim so I will definitely be tracking down one of these coats. I also am here for all the over the top fur jacket outfits so I am excited to see how this one develops.

Affordable accessories:

The top accessories that are making an appearance this season are baseball hats, hair bows, and long colorful fuzzy scarves! These are all great ways to introduce some color into your wardrobe and don’t require you to spend a lot of money! Finding a hat or ribbon to match some of your shoes is a great way to create more intentional outfits without putting in a lot of effort!

Let me know in the comments what your think about these fashion trends and if you hate them or love them!
