How to save money and create this Halloween Pottery Barn Dupe for less than $20
September 13, 2022
I will be the first one to admit that an ad got me. To be fair, it only got me to check out the website where I quickly realized the price tag was a definite no, but it still got me. Now I could have ended my journey here and realized the light-up broom was just not in the cards for me, but I’m just not someone who takes no for an answer (youngest child flaw, I’m told) and I was sure I could make it myself. SPOILER ALERT: you can absolutely make it yourself.
First order of business, where do I buy a broom? Unfortunately, I have not yet figured out what bricks to tap on the side of my house to get me into Diagon Alley, so I will have to find my broom in a muggle shop. I did a brief search online, but I could not find the right broom. I am currently working on another home DIY, so I was lucky enough to find myself in Home Depot one afternoon and they happened to have the perfect broom to create my masterpiece. You can get yours here.
Oh, you are also going to need battery-operated twinkle lights, so I ordered these for $11. If you overthink every purchase like me, then I think this is a good time to fill you in on a little secret about these lights: it has a remote. SOLD.
The original broom I saw on the Pottery Barn website could be yours for a humble $125 price tag. I will link it here for anyone who is either Jeff Bezos or has lost their mind and would like to purchase it. If you do not fall into either of those categories and feel great about saving over $100 by making it yourself, then here is what you do:
Gather supplies (lights + broom)
Check lights to make sure they work (if you get the ones I linked, you will need 3 AA batteries)
Fluff the bottom of the broom
Wrap the lights in (literally just shove them up the middle) and around the broom
Light up and Enjoy!
